My first photo shoot in Manhattan

This picture was taken in Manhattan, and I intended to show a technique of ''leading lines''. I also tried to fill the frame in the camera so the picture looked clean and showed my ability to be able to combine elements of both the building windows and the sphere inside of the square.  I enjoyed taking this picture because it clearly demonstrates how two random objects can come together into a full piece and form one cohesive portrait.                                            


In this 2nd picture I wanted to show the merge between the statue and the two buildings and how they both fit perfectly inbetween the sky and the statue.

Battery Park May 10

 In the first photo, the large glass room quickly caught my attention because of all the individual light and shadows created from the support beams. I also noticed a lot of repetition and patterns because of the refractions caused by the glass and lighting. The vertical beam going across the skylight makes the room symmetrical on both sides.






In the second photo i made sure to angle the camera properly to make the railing have a leading effect towards the doors. The end of the railing can also be interpreted as two different paths and the two doors can lead you somewhere differently.             

6PM in New York

I was inspired to take this photo by the tunnel like image the trees created. The sun on the top of the trees allowed for a unique way to use shadows to take a great picture. My main focus of this photo was to find an angle to capture the symmetry that was created by the surroundings. I love how the left sight has more light than the right. The photo has just the right amount of balance to make it easy to look at without getting distracted.

What first captured my interest about this globe was the texture involved on it. What made it different from the rest was the material woven around it. It is also very apparent in the photo that I simplified the background to allow the main focus to be the foreground. A little repetition comes into play when looking at the curved line of the other globes. Also the pattern of woven material can be seen

New York through A Camera

 The picture on the left represents my love for abstract photos. What I did in this picture is take the original object and create a totally different object of my liking by filling in the frame and by using the rule of thirds method to make this object completely mine. I noticed that there is a reflection of an old building on a new building's window. Therefore I took the photo from atypical point of view.  

The photo on the right shows me playing around with fragments. What I wanted to do was take a picture of something that someone could use as a wallpaper on their  phone or computer. I believe that my experiment was successful. Taking a picture from this close shows the texture of the object and makes it look like you can reach out in grab it.

NYC Battery

In this photo a few composition techniques can be seen. One technique that I used was filling the frame, centering attention. I also simplified the background by having the water in the background be blurry. Texture can also be seen when looking at the springs, threads on the porthole, and nails holding it down.

With this photograph I started out with an atypical point of view, aiming the camera down. I used leading lines to draw attention to the change of pattern near the bottom. Texture is also able to be seen in the first pattern set. The repetition aids to the pattern to be seen more as it is drawn out through the filled frame.

Battery Park Sea Port

BLOOD.

I noticed the texture of the bloody knife and the scales on it, so I had to figure out how to capture it and make an interesting photo. I drew attention to the knife by color blocking its background which makes it's silver blade stand out more.  I also used the cracks in the sidewalk and leading lines to draw attention to the knife. Lastly, I shot this on a rule of thirds basis to make the photo interesting. 

LOST.

Here, I wanted this to almost pull the viewer into the water. I used leading lines that disappear in the bottom corners of the frame to accomplish that. I also aimed to create symmetry and emphasize the shadows on the objects in the foreground. 

New York's Unknown

This photo shows a very atypical point of view of a knot. No one would have ever thought to be so close to an object to view its textures. This also has a simplified background as it brings more focus to the knot rather than whats around it. You can also see all the features of the object such as the way the "swirl" on the rope seems to be tied. It shows how using a camera and changing the way you see things can really make or break a photo.

This photo shows a very good example of  texture and filling the frame. You can really see the rough texture of the object that makes you want to touch the object. Also the object completely takes up the entire frame with nothing ruining the focus of the object. This also has some geometric shapes in it such as the square on the left side of the frame. This photo also makes you wonder what this object is because of the atypical point of view.

NY Fragmented

 In this picture I show how I was intrigued by the structure of the World Trade Center station. This picture has heavy leading lines which contribute to the texture of the picture also. Also, the pattern in the picture makes it somewhat hypnotizing which is great.

In this photograph, I created an abstract out of a flag pole holding The American flag. This picture invokes the question "What is that?". It also really emphasizes light and shadow as a central idea in the photo. Lastly, there is usage of a low point of view to make the pole look gigantic.

First Photo Trip to Manhattan: The City's View

The title I gave this picture is the lonely man in the corner. The elements of this photograph is leading lines, rule of thirds, and pattern. You can also see some shadows. I believe that people will be intrigued to stair at this photo, because of the leading lines it draws the viewers eyes into the man in the corner of the photo. Also the colors of the stairs brings a strong emotion to the photo.





The title of this photograph is the statues view. The elements it portrays is rule of third, leading lines, emotion, and pattern. I enjoy this picture because it reminds of a movie, or book scenery. I also like how the contrast of the building and statue build some emotion. This picture is one of my best work because the rule of thirds, makes the picture beautiful. I also adjusted the exposure of the picture to add more darkness into the shade.

New York City Bound

The Lights in this picture show me a example of a path to the "light". I thought it came perfect to as a path to a paradise, and how abnormal the lights lead to one part. The leading lines on the side, the the white glow also came out quiet nice. It looks like the bottom of the picture, its the end of the path to the ever wonder. Thinking of this picture makes you think of your imagination of what the picture may be.







This picture to me makes me think of I'm in a glass room, this picture has wonderful symmetry. In this picture looks like vents or even a book. As the picture before you have to use your imagination as well. Its gives of feeling that what the picture it is rather small but it was actually quiet large. Also as before this picture is in need of imagination to get the full experience.

NYC pictures. Take #1

My intention in this photo was to to fill the frame around the flyers. I noticed that there was a nice pattern which made me take the photo. I though, putting a frame around the photo would sparks people's interest. 

This photo of a broken chain represents the broken chains of slavery. I used rule of thirds while under exposing the photo to grab the viewer's attention to the broken chain. The purpose is to to the viewer thinking about the broken chain and what it represents.

Views from the 212

My photography was taken to a new level when my class touched base in Lower Manhattan, NY. Most of my photos were a bit overexposed due to the cloudy white sky causing my photo subjects to appear brighter with very insipid coloring. But after learning how to adjust the exposure, I've learned that my camera seems to take a liking to the -1  and +2 exposure, bringing out both color and crisp clarity. 

In the first photo, I'm giving you full on metal texture, fragment frame filling and light & shadow. The sunny view from my camera and eye was brightly lit upon my subject, almost blinding me. Instead of using negative exposure, I tried out positive two and got a really dim but sharp image of my subject. Intense sunlight with a high exposure level really brought out elements of this photo I never saw.

In the second photo, I wanted to show nature study and simplicity but got much more. With a negative one exposure, I was allowed to gain focus on the inside of the flower that was too bright and fuzzy to see. Additionally, I filled the frame and gained a new point of interest; the core.

"What is this?..."

Many people observing my photograph will ask "What is that?" to them I give many answers. After today's lesson, I can confidently tell them that this is Light & Shadow, Pattern, and Abstract. All of which I just named are photography ideas judging by the monotone color, clarity in the light, and repeating ripples.

Simple yet Effective

I ended up choosing this photo because it seemed to be the most favorable due to its simplicity. Mainly because of its repetition, geometric shapes, and light and shadow. However I was conflicted between another really good photo I captured. I also believe this photo would give a calming mood to people who see it.

Mystery

In my photo a few elements can be found, first light and shadow. The light coming in from the window makes everything else dark casting the shadow and adding mystery. Another element I focused on was texture. Specifically the dish, if the dish did not have the lines running around it, the photograph would not be as lively because the line makes the photo seem more 3D.

Spring Training

My approach to taking this photo changed as the time went on. I tried to find the right angle and then I got the idea to take a picture of their legs being a tunnel. It incorporates repetition and since the main focus is off center the rule of thirds comes into play. I took the picture from a level closer to the ground, changing the perspective of the photograph. Texture is also apparent when looking at the turf, it comes off as a rough surface. I believe this picture gives off a neutral feeling. Neither dark or happy.

Pizza Steps

This picture uses an atypical point of view of spiral steps to create the effect of being pizza slices. There is also a very metallic texture to this picture. I chose this out of my pictures from the day because of its eye grabbing characteristics.

Mind Games

 The photo that I took fits the abstract category. Taking pictures like theses allows the viewer to look at the picture to determine what the image looks like for themselves. So i leave you with this question what does this look like to you?

Finding Patterns and Repetition

 I admire this photo because it's an odd picture that shows five different reflections in all five mirrors. I like the brightness of the photo it shows the details of the sink. The picture also shows repetition of serveral different objects. My pictures are just going to get better and better because I'm practicing everyday.

What is this?

The compositions of this picture consistent with what I learned are, abstract because this kind of thing can be taken for different points of view and not decipher what it is and for that reason this photo is special, and other of the photography ideas is atypical point of view because you don't look this at this point of view and you are intrigued to see this photo.

What is Life?

For this still life I really did not expect anything to come out of it. I just took a picture of a chair and many people said that it signifies loneliness. This photo also has some leading lines that direct you to the chair. In terms of compositions, this photo has a very simplistic background. I'd like to call this photo "Depression."

The 78

This picture is taken using a composition technique called the Rule of Thirds. The Rule of Thirds is when an object's picture is taken off the center of the picture. This picture also shows texture. Texture is the surface characteristics of an object such as: smooth or rough, soft or hard or, shiny or dull.

Blog Post 1 A Photo I Admire

What appeals to me in this photo is the fact that everything is in focus. I also admire how the photographer took the picture and focused on the detail so much that all the lights are illuminating adding life to the picture. The background almost looks like a pull down screen but the photographer was able to use filters and visual effects as well as lighting to pull this off. This is something I aspire to learn during photography. This makes me want to become more familiar with the technique of snapping photos. This photo uses light from the head and tail lights to add effect. On top of this there are lines on the bottom of the mound that lead to the vehicle. Lastly what I notice is the simplicity of the background.

Inspiring photo

The reasoning behind my chosen picture was because of how I related it to real life and how it caught my attention. The roads irregular shape leads your eyes along with the simple background all being one color and made me focus on the man and what he was doing. In this photo we also see signs of background simplicity, and lines.

A Picture That I Admire.

The reason I chose this photo was for the love of a family member. This picture shows Ken Griffey Jr. and his father playing baseball on the same team. This picture resembles the passion of what someone special can do for you. i admire this photo a lot because it also shows that a sport can bring people even closer together than they ever were. Another reason why i admire this photo is that Ken Griffey Jr always wanted to be like his dad, and for him to play with him, made his dream come true. This picture has a deeper meaning than two people playing a sport they love.  The smiles on their faces are priceless in this picture. Its beautiful to see two family members bond so much. Also this photo shows love for a family member, a teammate, and most importantly, a figure in Ken Griffey Jr's life.

The Photo I Admire

The reason I chose this photo is because it conveys the character's fate. Judging from the blood on his nose, we see that he is injured or perhaps dead. The background and the overall mood of the picture suggests that the character in the picture is in a state of limbo. As for this class, I hope that I learn how to take professional photographs and to learn the meaning behind a photo. 

My Admirable Photograph

I enjoy this photo mainly due to its lighting. The focus on the subject that the lighting provides is very immaculate. The "frame in frame" on the subject created by the lighting is also great. Along with all of these things I am a Lakers fan, and a Kobe Bryant fan. This adds a bit of an emotional connection to the picture.

First Day: A Photo That I Admire

I really admire this picture because of the many different features it displays. The setting of the picture is very relaxing. The symmetry of the whole picture is outstanding. It shows a lot of realism and the perspective of the photo is on point. This photo deserves admiration.

Eiffel Tower Night Life

When I think of the perfect picture I think of a picture that can take me to the place where the picture is taken. The picture of the Eiffel tower is such a picture. The reason is because even though I have not visited Paris let alone the Eiffel tower I can easily see myself being where this picture is taken. The reason is because the picture is not taken in the air or in a helicopter it is taken on the ground on a sidewalk which can easily mimic the eyes of a civilian. Also the red stream of light is a cool aspect to this picture.

Photograph that I admire

I chose this photo because it has a lot of sentimental value to me. To me it sums up my entire experience at Benedict's, one that I truly loved. It marks the end of various journeys that have taken place throughout my life, specifically at Benedict's. It marks the end of the trail, my last time being out there as a student,and that my years at the school are coming to a close. After these past two days of class I can now pinpoint some of the techniques that were coincidentally used. 

Including: a simple background, leading lines, and some natural visual effects the environment gave off.

I hope to learn how to intentionally execute the use of the skills I hope to learn in this class. Being able to take amazing pictures is my goal,

Assignment No. 1

This picture was taken last year while I was on the Appalachian Trail sitting at my checkpoint at around 5pm nearing sunset. This picture is one of my favorites because it started out as an accidental front camera slip. Then after I played with the contrast and sharpened it up, a  silhouette became apparent which really focused on not only me but the colors that are visible. The sky is an array of blue shades and despite the leaves being darkened, you can appreciate small parts of it's color. Also, I love pictures of nature, especially when a person or animal is interacting with it. The life of the animal/person brings out the life of nature which visually speaks to me.
After today, I can also point out that my picture shows a lot of negative space drawing focus on the leaves and my hair as well as color blocking.

I chose this picture because i like the nature of the world and at the same time i like things that are mysterious like in this picture of the boat in transparent water that seems that is flying because the photographer is using the composition of light and shadows and another composition what the photographer use for the boat be more outstanding is the composition of simple background . i hope to learn in this course how to take a photography in another perspective and how to take great pictures.
